Alexander Shapsis, M.D.
Alexander Shapsis, M.D. is a Board-Certified, fellowship-trained Gastroenterologist in the New York area, specializing in all aspects of gastroenterology, hepatology, and hepato-billiary diseases.

Born in Moldova, Dr. Shapsis came to the United States with his family in 1991, and completed his undergraduate studies at New York University with a major in Biochemistry and a double Minor in Math and Philosophy. He graduated Cum Laude and finished his medical school training at the SUNY Downstate School of Medicine at the top of his class. He is also the winner of the HIAS scholarship for his academic merits.
Dr. Shapsis completed his Internal Medicine Residency at the St. Vincent’s Medical Center of Manhattan. Following his residency, Dr. Shapsis completed his Fellowship in Gastroenterology at the St. Vincent’s Medical Center of Manhattan, as well as The Mount Sinai Hospital.
Dr. Shapsis is an attending physician at St. Vincent’s Medical Center of Manhattan, where he teaches residents and Fellows the basics of Gastroenterology. Dr. Shapsis has presented nationally and is a published author of multiple research articles on various topics in gastroenterology and gastrointestinal motility disorders. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology and is an active member of the American College of Gastroenterology and American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Dr. Shapsis is strongly committed to the care of his patients and the treatment of colon cancer.
